Story
My family or I will never be able to raise or do enough for St Wilfrid's after the support they gave my family in 2020. My grandparents were both healthy and holidaying on a Caribbean cruise in March 2020, however upon returning we were struck with bad news.
My grandpa was diagnosed with a devastating brain tumour and was cared for by the hospice at home team before sadly passing after two months. During this time the hospice supported us all as a family and were so kind and flexible considering this was during a Covid lockdown.
Just two months later my grandma also became ill and had painful, widespread cancer. She walked the Hospice's Moonlight Walk with us in her wheelchair and the next day came to the Hospice for her end of life care where she was looked after so amazingly by the team.
My grandparents helped raise me and I wouldn't be who I am today without their support and guidance. I really don't think i would have coped with losing them both in such a short time without the support from the hospice, I will be forever grateful.
The thought of running 10 miles petrifies me, I am not a runner and training has been tough with many occasions of me wanting to give up. I don't know how I will do on the day but I know my grandparents would be telling me to keep going and would be so proud!
