Story
This is my delicious nephew Huxley. He is nearly three, and a very special boy who is deeply loved. His skull was fractured during his birth and he was deprived of oxygen to the point that he was left brain damaged. Huxley was a perfectly healthy baby up to that point but due to the horrendous events surrounding his delivery he is now almost completely blind, has severe cerebral palsy, daily seizures, dystonia and many other complications, none of which can be cured but only managed. Due to the limited resources available in the NHS my sister and her husband do not get very much help in caring for Huxley. They are amazing and my sister has given up her job in order to look after him full time, as he needs round the clock care.
In November I am running the Kerikeri Half Marathon in honour of the beautiful Huxley, in the hopes that I can help to raise a bit of money for the specialised equipment and treatment that he needs- things like regular physiotherapy.
I’ve done a fair few Marathons and Half Marathons in my time, but I am currently so unfit that I know this one is going to really hurt. I’ll be thinking of Huxley the whole way round.
Please give generously to help improve Huxley’s quality of life and make life a little easier for him, my sister and bro-in-law. We would really appreciate it. Thank you.
