Story
A 65 meter abseil!?!... Now this is a new one for me... and a challenge that I have thought about on and off for the last couple of months, but today I decided I need to do this, so I've taken the plunge and decided to sign up for this very scary experience for 2 reasons...
1) My precious little boy Jack (of course!), who should now be 5 years old and doing all the typical things that 5 year old's do. He is forever in my heart, and I live everyday thinking about him and the things that 'should have' been. 5 years on and I will never know why my 6lb 2oz little boy never our blessed our world, or why he never made it home and I will never know the struggles he went through just before he died... but one thing I do know is that, if he can go through such a devastating time before his life barely began; then I can step off that building and do something amazing for him in his beautiful memory! He has made me a very proud and eternally grateful Mummy!
And 2) For all those special families that find themselves on the doorstep of Edward's Trust... some of which I now open the door to... I look up at them as they feel lost, heartbroken, devastated and empty and for a minute, it is like a reflection... I am almost looking back at myself via a mirror image from 5 years ago. The hurt and pain of losing a baby/child/son/daughter is unbearable... the grief journey is unimaginable and I know the path they have to walk on to ever contemplate smiling again... So I am stepping off this building for all of you too, it may not feel like it right now, but you will smile again, you can have hope for the future and you can win at life again... a very different life to the one you had originally planned ... but one that makes you proud to be a Mommy or Daddy to a very special son or daughter.
This abseil has already raised over £2,858 from some of our courageous supporters who I will join in stepping off 'The Bank' Building in Birmingham (and it is taller than Niagara Falls!!!) on Friday 27th September. £2,858 equates to around 57 hours of bereavement support for our families across the West Midlands. We support over 600 families per year, which equates to over 3,000 people.
Our families need hope for the future, and with your support we can continue to do so by donating anything you can spare to this page, or if you want to give a little tribute to my gorgeous blonde haired, long legged little boy Jack, whilst I take the leap of faith off this building, I would love for him to feel super proud of his Mummy, as I am super proud of everything he has taught me about life!
From the bottom of my heart - I thank you xxx
KWB have been close to Edward's Trust for several years, our director John Bryce has done pro-bono work for them, most recently when they relocated to Vicarage Road, in Edgbaston, and this we chose them as our charity partner for 2019 as we were both celebrating our 30th anniversary. They do amazing work with adults and youngsters who are bereaved, or about to be, they provide counselling support, offer 'wellbeing in bereavement' support, respite retreats and also train professionals working in their sector, but it costs them close to £600,000 a year and they have to rely on goodwill and support to raise those funds. The Bank stretches almost 65 metres into the sky above Broad Street - making it higher than Niagara Falls so is an ideal location for an abseil. Please support this wonderful local charity and give all that you can.
Thank you x
