Story
Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever. Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
I have chosen to run the Marathon to help raise very important money for Alzheimers.
My grandma 'My best friend' sadly was diagnosed with Alzheimers in 2008. For those of you that know her, she is a incredibly strong, funny and a determined person. Thankfully she has dealt with it in a truly formidable inspiring way. (mostly with a great sense of humour). As I take on this gruelling challenge I will focus on the love I have for her.
For anyone suffering with Dementia, it is cruel, random, relentless and scary. Every 3 minutes someone in the Uk is told they have Dementia. Therefore most of us at some point in our lives will be touched by dementia, and with that comes a range of gut-wrenching emotions that not only affect the person, who will at times feel anxious frightened angry and confused but also the family & friends who will slowly witness them slipping away.
Alzheimer’s is a very complex disease and affects each person differently. There is currently no cure for the disease. Alzheimer’s Society are working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. They do this by giving help to those living with dementia, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.
I hope with all my heart that we can one day find a cure, but in the meantime lets raise as much money as possible to ensure the individuals that need support get it!
Big love
