Story
I've never done anything like this before - neither skydiving or raising sponsorship money - but the time feels right.
Many people will know that our 13 year old daughter has been very seriously ill for over a year with anorexia. It is a truly vicious and nasty illness which robs children of their childhood, their ability to feel happiness and it attacks everything that is dear to them.
Anorexia is a greatly misunderstood illness and this means that getting treatment right can be very difficult. I think it's really important that people understand what eating disorders are and how they can steal the all the joy from sufferers lives indiscriminately and quite suddenly. Most people know someone who is connected to this devastating illness in some way - which goes to show how common it is. What people perhaps don't know is that anorexia has the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric disorder in teens and adults alike.
In a world of obesity shaming, where children are taught from age five that some foods are "good" and some are "bad" - it seems really important that we also acknowledge the other side of the story. BEAT is an amazing charity which educates and helps sufferers and their families.
Our girl has an amazing family who will support her no matter what and she will be well again - but the cost has been great. I am asking people who are able to help me raise money for BEAT so that they can do their vital work. Thank you.
PS really scared of jumping out of plane but I thought if Caitlyn Jenner can do it ...
