I am grateful to Alzheimers Society for giving me an opportunity to raise money for them. Alzheimers and dementia are cruel  and debilitating illnesses and we have yet to find a cure. 

My Mother -in-law Evie is a woman of enormous character, energy and the most sociable person I know. Fiercely independent and yet Alzheimers is cruelly punishing her, by taking away  those wonderful skills of  socialising, making fabulous cakes, taking care of her frail husband, chatting to her friends,

It has left Evie and all her family frustrated  and confused  at seeing The "Evie of old" slowly disappear. Thankfully she still retains  a great sense of Irish humour that Alzheimers cannot take away.

Alzheimers impacts not only on the person but also the family, the husband or partner, the children  and friends who are left to care.

 Alzheimers Society do a great job of supporting families in need, as well as putting money into researching  the causes of dementia as the  disease becomes more common with our ageing population
