Story
For those of you who don't know me...
My name is Lucy, I'm 22 years old and in my final year at university training to be a Children's and Young People's nurse. On the 7th October 2016 I aim to climb 5895m to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania to raise money and awareness for Julia's House Children's Hospice. I became a sibling volunteer for the charity in 2012 and love attending as many events as I can. The charity never fails to amaze and inspire me.
It provides respite care for life-limited children and their families across Dorset and Wiltshire. The charity provides care and support for the whole family through memorable events, trips and home visits. The astounding team of nurses and carers are there is in a crisis offering emergency respite and in the last moments of life providing holistic emotional and practical support.
In addition to this, I wish to complete this challenge in memory of my mum who sadly died last July after a short but courageous battle with cancer. She was the family support manager at Julia's House and organised breathtaking BBQ's, magical winter wonderland parties and staged the first remembering days for bereaved families. She exemplified kindness, thoughtfulness and compassion throughout her work and expanded the service greatly, benefitting siblings, mums, dads and extended family. She was an astonishing lady who touched the lives of so many!
By completing this challenge I hope to raise £7000.00 enabling the charity to continue the legacy my mum left behind and help those families who require support, kindness, laughter and a little sparkle!
Lucy.
