Story
My Dear Granddad suffers from a form of Dementia known as Dementia with Lewy Bodies (DLB). Since my Granddad was diagnosed last year, I have spent some time learning about the disease as I had little understanding of what it was.
I want to raise awareness of Dementia and also raise money for the great charity, Alzheimer's Society. So, I've decided to sign up to the Worcester City 10k run, just 25 days before the event - with no training or practice so far!
Around 850,000 people suffer with Dementia in the UK, 40,000 of which are "younger people". By 2025 there will be 1 million people with Dementia in the UK. It is really important that both awareness and funding is raised to help support those affected by forms of Dementia.
I would like to raise a minimum of £100 for the Alzheimer's Society.
- £5 could pay for one person to attend a half hour session at a monthly Dementia Café, providing information and support for people with dementia and their carers.
- £20 could pay for 100 copies of Understanding and respecting the person with dementia - one of the Society's most requested factsheets.
- £50 could fund a PhD researcher for one day to continue vital research into understanding the causes of dementia, how it can be treated and, ultimately, to find a cure.
It would be great if you are able to make a donation to this worthy cause, no matter how big or small.
Thanks for taking the time to visit my Run Lucy Run, JustGiving page.
WISH ME LUCK!
