Story
It was February 2014 & my Dad hadn’t been well for a while but I never expected for one moment what was about to happen. (It’s dad he’s the strong one nothing would ever harm him- he’s always ok)
Then the news came, a trip to the hospital and that’s it , no more ignoring it or being in denial, dad had bowel cancer and it was terminal.
A few days later it was the launch of the Carers Trust charity and Ranks partnership on Valentines Day 2014! My first year as charity champion..
The following 6 months were the hardest but most memorable of my life. Seeing the emotional and physical toll this took on not only my dad but my family too was nothing I would ever want to see or feel again.
Although it was a heart breaking time where this giant, strong man was now being pushed in a wheelhair by his little girl and he could no longer eat like he could and he would cry when he caught himself in the mirror, we were so so lucky. We had each other. We had the opportunities and everything else we needed to make the time we had together the best!
In 6 months we made the most of every moment!
So many people don’t have that and that is why I support the Carers Trust whole heartedly! They support unpaid carers to do exactly what we was able to do- making the most, whilst making the best!
From funding days out and breaks away, to replacing a broken washing machine the Carers Trust charity just makes life that little bit easier.
