Story

At the top of the page there are some photos for you to look through.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page!

From Friday 27th - Sunday 29th November, our volunteers will be volunteering back-to-back for the entire weekend (00:00-23:59)to raise funds for our Scheme! This will be an amazing achievement for our group, as our volunteers are also full time students!

Leicester University Community First Responders (LUCFR) are a group of students from University of Leicester and De Montfort University that respond to 999 calls on behalf of East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS). The aim of the scheme is to reduce the time taken for potentially life-saving treatment to be initiated to people within the community ahead of an ambulance.

We currently have one fully equipped response vehicle and a second set of equipment that can be used by students whilst they are attending placements anywhere within East Midlands. Our responders attend a range of medical emergencies including cardiac arrest, breathing difficulites and unconsciousness. You can find out more about our group, what a community first responder does and our responding statistics here: https://lucfr.co.uk/.

As well as responding to 999 calls, our volunteers also organise and attend community events to engage the public in health awareness activities, including the use of specialised mannequins to teach CPR. This is in an effort to further increase the chances of survival following cardiac arrest in the community, by equipping the public with the skills to initiate this procedure ahead of the emergency services.

LUCFR relies on donations from events such as this in order to fund the medical equipment, response vehicle and all other running costs. With your kind contribution, it will allow us to continue volunteering within Leicester city and the surrounding communities.

As a sign of our appreciation, we will send you a LUCFR supporter badge for all donations over £5 plus a LUCFR supporter window sticker for donations over £10

(Make sure to tick yes in the box that allows us to see your details so we can send this to you!)

On behalf of LUCFR, I would like to like to say THANK YOU for helping us continue to run this voluntary service within Leicester! It will be an exciting event for our scheme to volunteer non-stop for a whole weekend, and I am very proud of our volunteers for rising to this task whilst juggling their academic work!
