Story
Lucas, 13 (or he will be in march anyway!) wants to
fundraise again after a successful campaign last year. He wants to do more and go bigger this time to push himself further. He says the crews are still working so hard, he has seen this with his own eyes most weekends since October. Lucas decided that the crews at our local A&E needed a break so pestered local
people, local businesses and my friends for donations. We now provide crews with hot drinks and cake (and hugs when needed) on a Saturday and Sunday. We are there about 12 hours most weekends. Lucas has seen the highs and the lows of the job, seen crews in tears after their last job when simply offered just a hot drink.
He still wants to be a paramedic when he's older and is
working towards this aim with his school and also St John Ambulance.
He has recently received 2 community hero awards for his
voluntary work at the hospital however he wants to be able to help ambulance staff across the country and this is where his challenge comes in. This year he's going to walk 1,000,000 steps in march to fundraise for The Ambulance Staff Charity (TASC).
TASC, The Ambulance Staff charity is the leading UK charity supporting current and retired Ambulance Staff and their families, regardless of role, to enhance their mental and physical well-being during times of need. Ambulance Staff dedicate their lives to supporting and saving others. They see life at its most fragile, often dealing with tragedy on a daily basis. Sometimes they themselves are in need of care and support. Our support enhances their well-being during times of need by helping to alleviate pain, suffering and financial hardship.
