Story
This year, there will be 11,000 Londoners spending winter homeless. To challenge this, LSE AU has teamed up with RAG to raise money for 2 fantastic charities who challenge homelessness in the UK: St Mungo's and Crisis. On Monday 6th December, 2 teams of 3-6 LSE students will be setting off to walk between 55 tube stops across London. Each team will have to walk 35 miles, before they finish the day on Campus having covered a combined 110 unique London Underground stops, one for every 100 homeless Londoners this Christmas.
St Mungo's have been at the forefront of efforts to tackle homelessness for over 50 years. Each night, their outreach teams go out to help people sleeping rough move away from the streets, providing a bed and support to over 3,150 people. They work to prevent homelessness and to support people at every step of their recovery from homelessness.
Crisis were founded in 1967, and have been doing amazing work to end homelessness since. They focus on getting people off the streets and setting them on a sustainable pathway out of homelessness, providing people with the skills and training they need to start rebuilding their lives. Last year, Crisis helped more than 11,300 people on their journey out of homelessness. Crisis at Christmas is the charity's flagship Winter campaign. A donation of £29.06 can help provide a safe place to stay, hot meals and a Christmas dinner, companionship from volunteer befrienders and year-round support including training and education.
Therefore, we will be aiming to raise £2,906 to be split between St. Mungos and Crisis; so that this Christmas, there will be 100 more people off the streets and into a positive environment where they will be provided a happy day and be put on the first step on the path out of homelessness!
