‘Less than one in ten people will survive an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. But survival rates can be increased significantly if a Defibrillator is used and CPR is performed. That's why we've made it our mission to ensure communities all over Wales have access to Defibrillators and are trained in how to use them. We also provide heart screenings in Wales, to detect life-threatening heart conditions that often go undetected. Our fundamental goal is to save lives in Wales.’
On Sunday 14th November my dad Peter Belson had a heart attack and went into cardiac arrest. His life was saved by quick thinking police officers, one of whom happened to have a defibrillator in their car. Not all police cars are equipped with defibrillators and there definitely aren’t enough in public spaces, or enough people confident to use one. My dad wouldn’t be alive right now if that officer hadn’t had a defibrillator. I want to raise money for Calon Hearts because their goal aligns with my families of having more defibrillators in Wales and raising more awareness of defibrillators and how to use them. Luckily my dad is on the mend, but not everyone will be that lucky.
