Story
This year I will be running my first ever Marathon in memory of my Nanny Hellos raising money for the Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice.
The Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice provided the best care for not only my Nanny Hellos but for my entire family. I was only 6 years old at the time but I have so many fond memories of being at the hospice with my Nan and going to the great hospice shop.
Yvonne Price known to me as Nanny Hellos died in 2005. She was the most incredible Nan, beautiful, bright and bubbly which is how she got her name. She would always come into the room and say 'Hello' with the biggest smile and so much energy. My brother at the time could not pronounce 'Yvonne', so that's how she got the name Nanny hellos. She was diagnosed with Kidney Cancer in September 2004 and sadly had a short fight with cancer after having several rounds of chemotherapy, the cancer sadly spread to her bowl and then to her lungs.
Nanny Hellos discovered The Greenwich and Bexley Community Hospice in her last few months. She started to visit the hospice every Tuesday to attend classes which provided activities, that allowed her to socialise with other patients, who were able to relate to what she was going through. At the end of her battle she stayed at the Hospice for a few weeks, where they provided her with a comfortable environment and the best care. I can't thank the nurses enough for being there for not just my Nan but for my entire family.
I have always wanted to set myself a challenge to fundraise for this amazing cause which is so close to my family's heart and what an incredible opportunity it is to run my first ever marathon in memory or Yvonne Price (Nanny Hellos).
