"Cheshire based Artist, Louise Crawford in conjunction with Royal Manchester Children’s' Hospital and The Many Hands Campaign is working on a fascinating new project to mark 60 years of dedicated and specialist services on the Burns Unit. Louise will be creating therapeutic and interactive art workshops with the children to provide distraction from burns treatments, which are often painful and very distressing.
The art created by the children will be
available to view online through our virtual gallery and on social media pages,

Louise turned back to art herself after a life changing back injury, as a distraction from Chronic Pain. During the ten years of exploring artistic styles before finding her own artistic voice, Louise found the work came flooding out in a very organic way, forged by the need for regular movement to ease the pain. Jackson Pollock’s ‘action paintings’ have always been a great influence to her work amongst the technique of many others great artists. However, moving around the canvas and immersing herself in the painting, rather than sitting statically gave the work a rhythm and life of it’s own.
Louise wanted to use her experiences to benefit others by doing more than raise money alone. With a belief that communication and expression through art can be a powerful healer, leading to a collaboration with the RMCH of creating a series of six new pieces of work with the theme of Symbolism as a guide for the children involved to work towards. The research gathered throughout several months, along with painting techniques of well-known artists was merged together to create the exhibition. The work was uploaded online so the children could interact with the outside world to help them feel less isolated.
