Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I will be walking for ME Research UK to raise vital funds and awareness into this misunderstood illness.
I'm walking 4 miles during ME Awareness week (11th-17th May) with my partner Simon to represent the 4 years I have been diagnosed with ME. It has been a long, hard struggle to get where I am today, and I could not have done it without the amazing support of my immediate family, close friends and of course my partner who has been with me every step of the way (as he will be during the walk!)
Myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME), also known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), is characterised by a range of neurological symptoms and signs, muscle pain with intense physical or mental exhaustion, relapses, and specific cognitive disabilities. ME is a multi-system disease, affecting not only the neurological system but also the immune, musculoskeletal, endocrine and cardiovascular systems. Currently there is no cure for ME. Even though ME/CFS affects up to 240,000 people in the UK alone, it remains neither well understood nor properly recognised. In comparison with diseases, such as diabetes and multiple sclerosis, research into ME/CFS is desperately lacking. This must change. At ME Research UK we believe passionately that biomedical research matters and is crucial to tackling the causes and consequences of this condition.
ME Research UK exists to fund biomedical research into ME/CFS, to find its cause, to develop effective treatments and ultimately to discover a cure.
