Story
In memory of Susan Mary Timlin.
3rd October 2015 will mark the 30th anniversary of my mum's death. She was 44 years old and I was 14. I can recall any number of details of that night 30 years ago, including what we had for dinner. I also vividly remember sitting by her bedside on a ward at Hull Royal Infirmary in the middle of the night, crying as other patients on the ward slept and being asked to keep the noise down for fear of disturbing them.
She was unconscious and I remember her breathing becoming slower and more irregular until it simply stopped. We kissed her goodbye and a more kindly nurse hugged us. My sister and I left with my dad, and in the morning we started a whole new phase of our lives. There was no counselling or support, we simply had to deal with our grief and get on with our lives.
Daisy’s Dream is a professional support service which responds to the needs of children and families affected by life threatening illness or bereavement. Their team of professionally qualified Family Workers enable children to adapt to their changing situation by offering them the chance to access support and information which addresses their needs and concerns.
30 years after my mum's death and at the age of 44 (the age she was when she died) I decided I wanted to do something in her memory that could make a difference to children going through such a devastating experience as the death of a loved one. Those of you who know me well will know that until recent times I have not been very well acquainted with exercise in general, and running in particular. A half-marathon therefore seemed a large enough challenge to encourage you all to dig deep and contribute to this worthwhile cause!
