In memory of Joyce Barker

Story

My much loved Auntie Joyce sadly passed away at Aintree Hospital in Liverpool on the 2nd December with her partner Mike and myself at her bedside.

Joyce had an operation to remove cancer from her lung (with success) but suffered a stroke and caught Ecoli in Charing Cross Hospital London in November 2016.  Joyce amazingly recovered but the stroke resulted in her losing her mobility and short term memory.  Prior to this Joyce had always been active and in good health.

Mike then broke his hip and the nightmare began with Joyce having to go into respite care.  The long, arduous journey to bring Joyce to Liverpool for myself and family to be at hand began.  Joyce moved to a temporary care home  in Waterloo, Liverpool, a flat was then found in sheltered accommodation.  Once all the services were in place Joyce came ‘Home’ to Mike and life was starting to get back to some normality.

Joyce however had been very angry and frustrated but the weeks prior to her death had become less agitated and more at peace which was lovely to see.  Joyce then developed an infection and was admitted to hospital and died 5 days later of  Pneumonia.

I loved my Auntie very much, she played a massive part in my upbringing as I lived with her for many years. she Joyce was like a mum to me and someone I spoke to daily.  Words cannot express how much I will  miss her.

The funeral takes place on Friday 15th December 15.20 pm at Thornton crematorium and then we will celebrate Joyce’s life at The Livin Cafe, College Road, Crosby L23.
