Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Whether it be some "fast approaching 40" crisis or just plain insanity, I have set myself the challenge of running a 10k race non-stop. I signed up with just 10 weeks until the race, and promptly downloaded the "couch to 10k" app on my iPhone. Unfortunately, this training regime was a 14 week program - oops - I only had 10 weeks, so had to cram extra sessions in.
Due to a busy life, and not wanting to impact on my long suffering family, I made the decision to do my training sessions early in the morning so I would be home before the kids were up. Initially my sessions were only around 30 minutes long, so I was getting up at 6.15ish, however, now my sessions are an hour long, and three times a week my alarm is set for 5.30a.m (sorry Paul) so I can get ready, train, and be back home before 7a.m when the morning rush starts.
To begin with, I found the training silly - run a minute, walk for 2 etc - how was this possibly going to get me up to a 10k run, but a runner friend of mine (thanks Nicola) told me to stick with it, it was tried and tested, and I would see results in the end.
Now with only four weeks until the big event, my stamina has improved, and I am amazed at how long I can run for. Fingers crossed I manage to complete the 10k without having to stop for breath - I am desperate to prove to myself I can do this!
I chose the Jane Tomlinson Appeal as it is a charity most people are aware of - Jane Tomlinson was so inspirational battling with her illness and raising so much money and awareness at the same time. The Appeal raises money for various childrens and cancer charities - two things very close to my heart.
