Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

So, why have I asked you to visit?  Well, in early 2011 I, along with five friends, will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro for the Samantha Dickson Brain Tumour Trust (SDBTT). SDBTT is the leading charity dedicated to adult and childhood brain tumour research in the UK. Their aim is to raise awareness, support and funds for brain tumour research to help fight this devastating disease and give hope to brain tumour patients in the future.

We're doing this because we lost a very dear friend of ours (Phil Garner) last year to this cruel disease. We all belong to a musical theatre group (Bournville Musical Theatre Company) and Phil was our director. He was a truly inspirational man, a great director and good friend. Phil was diagnosed with a very agressive form of brain tumour (Glioblastoma Multiforme) in July 2009 and sadly died just weeks later.

We decided to take on this challenge to not only raise money for a good cause, but to do something that would stretch us all personally and be a fitting tribute to Phil.

The climb will take us up the Machame Route from the south side of Kilimanjaro, we should all reach the 5896m (19,340 ft) summit by about the 6th day (with hopefully no altitude sickness along the way).

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now. Please also forward this page to as many people as you can think of. Every penny counts towards our goal. Each member of the Team is hoping to raise £3,500 and we've given ourselves a year to do it. Perhaps you could help by holding a coffee morning or cake sale, a pub quiz or a sponsored event?. Please do all you can....we really appreciate your support.

Thankyou xxx
