Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I shall be running the Brighton half Marathon in February and the Full Brighton Marathon in April in Memory of Chris Brain.
I am running these to raise money and awareness for the MND Association, to hopefully find a cure for this life limiting illness.
In January 2015 my partners step-father Chris was given the devastating news that he had Motor Neurones Disease. Watching how they have coped and the daily battles they have faced makes what I'm doing seem like a walk in the park. When Chris was first given this news I didn't know anything about MND and I certainly never realised how cruel and horrible it is.
In the past 2 years since his diagnosis I have watched Chris go down hill, in the beginning the progression of the disease was fairly slow however in the past year Chris deteriorated rapidly and sadly lost his battle with this awful disease on Thursday 2nd February. Just over 2 years since his diagnosis.
Below is some more information on what MND is and the charity I'm running for.
About Motor neurone disease and The MND Association
The MND Association is the only national charity in England, Wales and Northern Ireland dedicated to improve care and support for people affected by MND, fund and promote research, and campaign and raise awareness so the needs of people with MND are addressed by society.
Motor neurone disease is a fatal and rapidly progressive disorder that affects the brain and spinal cord. It attacks the nerves that control movement and can leave people locked in a failing body - unable to move, talk, and eventually, breathe. 30% of people will die within a year of diagnosis, 50% within 2 years and the remaining wont make it past 5 years. There are very few cases of people surviving past the 5 years, the most famous being Steven Hawkins.
Motor Neurones Disease can affect anyone of us at any given time, there is no know cause of the disease and no cure.
Unfortunately at present a diagnosis is a death sentence, By raising money for the charity and helping to fund vital research into this disease we can hopefully help change that and one day we will be free of MND.
There is currently no cure for this disease so please help this cause by donating as much as you can,and helping us create a future free from MND
