I am so thrilled to have been given to opportunity to give something huge back. Next year, I will be travelling to Rwanda with a group of 26 female teachers to help build a block of three classrooms for young people, at the Group Scolaire school in the village of Muko, northern Rwanda.

Access to education and low literacy levels remain huge barriers for those living in poverty in Rwanda. Due to lack of funding there is an urgent need for new classrooms and sanitation facilities at the school.

While the number of students increase each year, there is not enough space to accommodate them all causing classrooms to become very overcrowded. This makes it very difficult for the children to concentrate, leading to poor performance and dropouts, exacerbating the cycle of poverty further.

Building classrooms is not going to be easy for me and will push me way out of my comfort zone, but I am so excited about being given the opportunity.
