Story
I have found a new love of cycling outdoors since the Gym had to close during Lockdown - It’s kept me physically fit and mentally strong during these trying times of Covid 19! In 6 weeks I’ve cycled 600km so far and plan to cycle a total of 400km in the next 4 weeks bringing my grand total to 1000km by 22nd June 2020.
Those who knew Bryan, will no doubt remember how he loved cycling too and even continued to do this for as long as he was able after he was diagnosed with ALL Leukaemia at Aged 19 - on his Bright Yellow Fancy Marin Bike) Ironically, just before my Dad was diagnosed with Leukaemia, we did a family charity cycle in Glasgow in memory of Bryan & Dad rode on Bryan’s bike (well until he has some technical difficulties when the chain fell off and he made Nick swap bikes mid cycle 😂)
We sadly lost Bryan to Leukaemia aged 19 & then 11 years ago, our family was destroyed yet again, when ALL Leukaemia suddenly struck my Dad and although he put up a brave fight, he sadly lost his life on 24th May 2009.
The difference we saw in treatment/technology that my Dad received in 2009, from when my Brother was treated in 1991 was phenomenal, showing us first hand that research works and our hope is that a cure is found soon so that no other family will have to suffer the pain and loss that ours have due to this awful & cruel disease.
I know times are tough at the moment for people and with lots of events being cancelled, Charities are also struggling so if you can, I would appreciate any support you can give to this amazing Charity in the hope that through continuous research, a cure will be found & your kindness will most certainly inspire me during my 6am cyclesover the next few weeks.
You’ll be able to keep an eye on me through my Strava page where all the km’s are being tracked.
Many thanks, lots of love,
Lou xxxx❤️🌈
A little from the charity:
Blood Cancer UK is a charity dedicated to beating blood cancer. They do this by funding research and supporting those affected. Since 1960, they’ve invested over £500 million in blood cancer research, transforming treatments and saving lives.
Right now, the charity is funding 360 researchers and staff across the UK who are searching for the next breakthrough.
The day we will beat blood cancer is now in sight and the researchers are determined to finish the job.
