Story
I’m doing it! I have been lucky enough to secure a charity place for Oxfam for the London Marathon in April this year. The charity has been one that I have supported since my teenage years, they do such valuable work helping people out of poverty all over the world.
Helping people to help themselves out of poverty, advancing women’s rights and building fair livelihoods.
Because when there’s clean running water, when communities rebuild stronger after a crisis, when people can provide for their families, when women have a chance to live free from discrimination, when girls have the chance to gain an education, when we challenge the systems that keep people poor, when we work for a more equal and sustainable world, that’s when we will end the injustice of poverty for everyone.
Right now Oxfam is supporting the Indonesian government to provide clean water and hygiene facilities to those affected by the tsunami that hit Indonesia’s Sunda Strait on 22 December.
Thousands of people are housed in makeshift camps, and they need aid urgently including clean drinking water, food and sanitary supplies. Their teams are on the ground providing clean water, building toilets and distributing hygiene kits that include blankets and soap.
In Yemen millions of men, women and children are one step away from famine. Oxfam urgently need help to feed families and save lives. A staggering 18.8 million people are in desperate need of help.
Please help by sponsoring me and get food and water to families in crisis.
Over the next few months I will be doing lots of fund raising posting updates along the way. To kick off I am taking part in dry January, which will be a big challenge since I am partial to a tipple.
Thank you.
