My amazing eldest sister Tracy [T] died on the 27th of August 2018 from ovarian cancer. If determination, strength of character and an absolute desire to live could have cured her, then T would still be alive today. From the time of her diagnosis, through chemotherapy, the loss of her hair, radiotherapy, being forced to use a wheelchair and facing a terminal diagnosis, T was truly courageous. Cancer never defined her, nor did it ever diminish the essence of who she was. T's absence will always be felt enormously by those who loved her and she has left a tremendous hole in our hearts.A woman dies from ovarian cancer every two hours, yet the diagnosis and treatment falls behind other high profile diseases, like prostate and breast cancer. Ovarian Cancer Action [OCA] funds research, helping to develop better treatment options and screening tools to ensure it is caught in its earliest stage. The OCA Research Centre is the only facility of its kind in the UK and is home to talented scientists from around the world. OCA also seeks to raise awareness, T dismissed her symptoms for many months however women diagnosed at stage 1 have a 90% chance of survival compared with 19% at stage 3. OCA also campaigns for change, they are committed to preventing hereditary ovarian cancer and to ensure that all women at high risk have access to genetic testing and information about how they can reduce their risk. Their mission is to stop women dying from ovarian cancer.Having ever only run for a bus before, attempting the London Marathon is a real challenge for me. I am so proud of my sister, the way she lived her life and the way she faced the end of it and hope to honour her memory by completing this challenge. Please support me in my attempt and I promise to do everything I can to complete the course. I will post regular training updates to enable you to laugh at my efforts! Lou x
