Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am engaged directly with Steps Worldwide, who support those impacted by childhood lower limb conditions, to ensure that the funds I raise will go specifically towards Perthes related research.
Most of you may know that our son, James, got diagnosed with this rare hip condition in 2017.
You can learn more about what Perthes is and our journey so far via our blog: https://thecookestakeonperthes.com/
October is also Perthes Awareness Month so perfect timing to take on this challenge!

THANK YOU! :-)
Update on how the funds raised will get used:
Adam Galloway, a paediatric physiotherapist and Visiting Academic Clinical Fellow at the University of Leeds, is contributing to a growing body of work researching the effectiveness of different surgical and non-surgical treatments.
Adam has secured funding from the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) to complete a PhD to develop a digital rehabilitation programme of care in the form of an app which is accessible for all children with Perthes Disease.
The 4 year research program aims to:
- access patients and families affected by Perthes, ensuring the voices of those most impacted by the disease are included
- develop a better understanding of the experiences of children and their families when being treated for Perthes Disease
- combine this Info with the expert opinion of clinicians and to ensure that the decisions we make to treat children with Perthes in the future are the best informed
- develop and test an app that enables access to info about Perthes and allow children to log their exercise/progress and assess how useful it is as a non-surgical treatment
