Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
During lockdown our kids asked us to promise them that we would do more to help other families who are struggling as a result of the pandemic. We have a dear friend, Sue Lovejoy, who has inspired us over the last few years with the amazing work that she has been
participating in at The Rise Trust. We decided that supporting The Rise Trust by doing a fund-raising walk from Greenbank, Bristol to Bath this summer would be a wonderful way to fulfil our promise. We will be walking together as a family on Friday 19th August.
It has taken us longer than we would have liked as we were all very ill with covid and I had a stint in hospital so the walk is a way of both raising money for this great cause as well as giving a 'yes' to life and pushing the boundaries of our fitness!
RISE stands for Reach - Include - Support - Enable.
It is a not for profit community charity and their services have
been developed in response to the community needs. It works with families and children to help them to get back on their feet and to deal with life’s challenges in ways which make things better for them and their children. They offer non-judgemental, impartial, friendly advice and they are always there!
Their Children’s Centre Services (for families with 5-year
olds and under) are commissioned by Wiltshire Council and cover North Wiltshire - Chippenham, Calne, Corsham, Colerne, Malmesbury, Royal Wootton Bassett, Lyneham and Cricklade/ Purton. The Trust works out of children’s centres, community venues and in family homes – wherever is best for the families.
They provide:
• Outreach support for vulnerable children and families
• Parenting Aspirations and Parenting Skills – bonding with their children
• Narrowing the Attainment Gap working with settings and schools
• Specialised Training and Support for vulnerable families
• The ‘RISE journey’ from client to employment
• Signposting to agencies that can support for housing, substance abuse and debt including providing food parcels or handing out vouchers from local charities.
and this is their ethos:
"Through unconditional love, commitment and passion, we seek to enable all children, young people and adults to be the best that they can be"
They are an amazing team with around 100 volunteers. Staff, parents, children and the general public get involved in events to raise funds and the awareness of the work that they do as Children’s Centres.
