Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In 2013, having lived on and off with Depression for a lot of my adult life, I was admitted to hospital with severe Depression and Anxiety. I was discharged on 7th January 2014, and my recovery is not yet complete.......and yet I consider myself incredibly lucky.
I feel that everyone should have access to the sort of care I received - and Mind (having merged with the Depression Alliance in 2016) works hard to plug those gaps, providing practical help, therapy, information etc. This care is critical, and they can only help people when they have the funds to do so.
Depression and Anxiety is not easy to treat - 6 sessions of talking therapy does not work for a large number of people....CBT and Mindfulness does not work for everyone (it didn't work for me)....recovery time can be protracted, and is not a 'straight line'.
I can't sing, dance, run, stride etc. so I've picked the one thing I can do - I can shave my head. I shall be pink-less for as long as it takes to grow back (hopefully it will grow back LOL) It is my intention to put this on Facebook Live (haven't used that yet) and the proposed date is 2nd March 2018 - to make sure I experience cold weather :-) I have 150 friends on Facebook - if everyone gives 2 pounds (it was 1 pound, but apparently the minimum amount with Just Giving is £2...which is a bit cheeky in my opinion), and asks their friends to give £2 too, we can give a modest donation to help Mind with its work.
