Story
On Monday 27 September 2004, two of our beloved children Betsy and William, our darling twins, were killed in a tragic accident in our family home. They were two years old and loved beyond comprehension.
On Sunday 27 September 2009, Paul and I will have to endure the fifth anniversary of Betsy and Williams’s death. The anniversary of a child’s death is one of total confusion and pain. It is a day when you are consumed by overwhelming grief and sadness, the reality will be that we haven't seen our dear children for five years, and the pain that brings will be horrendous. Everything hurts. All over. It is a day when you just want to curl up into a ball and cry.
However, this year on the day of their fifth anniversary, Paul and I have decided to run the Windsor Half Marathon in memory of Betsy and William. However enormous the day will be both physically and emotionally, we will complete the marathon, because we will put our medals on our children’s grave later that day when we say goodnight to them.
We have been continually supported by The Child Bereavement Charity, who we are now very proud to be Patrons of, but the charity desperately needs funds to support the most amazing work that they do for so many bereaved families. We can say first hand that the work that they do is paramount to helping families at the most tragic time of their lives, and in our case the support we have received has allowed us to survive and continue to parent our living children. We are trying to raise as many funds as possible for the charity and would be so grateful for any donations.
There are 6000 runners taking part in The Windsor Half Marathon and I have had to explain to our children that there is a very big chance that I may come 6000th, as I am really, really rubbish at running! However much to my relief, I think that I can officially call it running as I did overtake someone walking the other day! This really is going to be a challenge.
We would like to thank all of our dear friends and family and The Child Bereavement Charity who have continued to hold our hands on our journey and of course we remain inspired by our darling children Ben, Lily Fleur, Poppy and Teddy, and never ever forgetting our beloved Betsy and William.
