Story
We are very excited to be taking part in the 2022 London Marathon on Sunday 2nd October. Our goal is to raise £4,000 for Shelter. This is a fantastic charity which supports those whose lives have been affected by homelessness and campaigns to make the policy changes needed to end the housing emergency.
In December 2021 274,000 people were homeless in England, including 126,000 children. This is a staggering number of people whose lives have been turned upside down by having nowhere to live, feel safe and thrive. Something which most of us take for granted.
This crisis has only worsened in recent years. Covid protections introduced at the start of the pandemic such as the 'Everyone In' scheme, the eviction ban, and the boost to Universal Credit played a vital role in keeping people in their homes, but these have now all gone. With living costs soaring to unprecedented levels, thousands more people will be made homeless this year.
Shelter was formed in 1966 in response to the country's massive housing crisis, where around 3 million people in the UK were living in slums. 55 years on, an astounding number of people are still living without a home in one of the wealthiest countries in the world.
By supporting individuals who are struggling, standing up to private renters, campaigning for more social housing as well as improvements in conditions and consumer protections, Shelter is trying to turn the tide on housing and defend the right to a safe home.

Any donations you could contribute (big or small) will be greatly appreciated.
This will be the first time either of us have taken on a challenge like this and it's safe to say the nerves have already kicked in! We're looking forward to keeping you updated over the coming months and to hopefully seeing some familiar faces at the finish line in October :)
