Story
Hi Everyone! This Summer I will be volunteering with Engineers Without Borders UK. I will be out in the Philippines working on micro-hydro power systems to provide electricity to rural communities.
As one of my fundraising activities I’m going to attempt to cycle from Cardiff to Brighton in 3 days! That’s around 200 miles in total.
Within the Philippines 22% of the population live below the poverty line, that’s more than 1 in 5 people!! The majority of the of Filipinos who live below the poverty line live in remote communities. By constructing new and renovating old micro-hydro power stations this will provide electricity to these locals.
With-out electricity children do not have access to lighting to study after dark, local health clinics are less able to cope with the demand and local businesses cannot develop as quickly. This can all be changed for the better by Engineers Without Borders UK and your support.
My target is set at £1,750, this money goes towards supporting and sustaining Engineers Without Borders UK projects around the world such as the Prakti project in India, the Light Up the World project in Peru and the project I will be on in the Philippines.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, it means a lot to me and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. Louis
