Story
I am running the London Marathon to raise money for the brilliant Charity, the British Liver Trust.
The reason I have chosen this charity is my wife was diagnosed with a rare liver condition in June 2020. In the past 2.5 years we have spent more time than we'd like in the liver wards at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, and I have seen how very ill the people on those wards are, some of whom we've become friends with. So this was a no brainer.
Obviously the marathon will be painful. Any race I've ever done has been... But this pain is my choice, and it will be temporary, unlike many of the patients who suffer from liver health problems.
I haven't ever done a stand alone marathon before, but I have completed the distance twice in Ironman races. I'm under no illusion it will be any easier. They never are.
I have also taken a pledge not to drink alcohol from January 2nd until the Marathon on 23rd April. Another test of endurance. But this adds to the challenge!
My training has improved recently but I had some setbacks with injuries in my calf, hamstring, knee, lower back, then a chest infection that have frustrated my progress. But I'm feeling good now and I'm optimistic of getting to the start line.
With regards to my race plan... It's just to get around the bloody thing, run steady and long, and take in the amazing atmosphere.
So any donations would be greatly appreciated. I'm doing this for Lou Lou xxx
