Story
My friends and I are running the Edinburgh Half Marathon in May 2024 on behalf of Blood Cancer UK, a charity that holds immense significance for both myself and my family. Back in 2009, my Dad tragically lost his life after a short and harsh battle with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML). At the tender age of 7, it was incredibly difficult for me to fully comprehend the gravity of what was happening. Running this half marathon is a heartfelt tribute to my Dad, whose passion for running and competition outside of his job as a doctor has inspired me to dive head first into a sport he loved dearly in his honour.
As the 15th anniversary of my Dad's passing approaches in August 2024, I feel a deep sense of duty as his son to take action and contribute to a cause that holds so much meaning. By putting my best foot forward and participating in this half-marathon, I hope to raise much-needed funds for Blood Cancer UK.
Through this endeavour, I aim to support other families who find themselves in the same position we were once in. I want to ensure that they have access to the necessary resources and support to navigate the challenges that come with blood cancer. By raising funds, we can help provide vital research, treatment, and improved care for patients and their families.
My ultimate goal is to make a positive impact and honour my dad's memory by helping others. I believe that by supporting Blood Cancer UK, we can contribute to a future where families can have their sick loved ones by their side for many more years to come.
