Well I actually did it!!!! Thank you all so much for sponsoring me. I am also over the moon that I managed to smash my £1000 target for Headway and raise a massive  £1,135.50.

It took me 4hrs and 29mins to complete the course. The run itself was an obstacle course. Within the first mile we had to jump through mud trenches and then carry on the remaining 7.5 miles caked in mud!!

There was a slalom which was really nasty, it spanned over what felt like a mile and consisted of approx 13 slaloms all on a steep embankment!! "Trust me that was tough" then water slaloms and endless cargo nets to crawl under.

Then there was the Obstacle course!!! I clambered up  8 meter high walls, crawled through tyres into what I can only refer to as a swamp! ran through a burning fire wall, balanced along a monkey rope, went into the torture chamber and got electrocuted !!!! ( So glad I didn't know about that little number)and escaped the torture chamber by crawling through concrete tunnels ( painful on your knees - Trust me!!)

I climbed up huge cargo nets which were approx 30 feet tall, swam through a lake, jumped into a lake, went on a dragon boat through a lake, dunked under logs in a lake!! and finally crawled under barb wire. Then after all that i did the whole obstacle course again! But it was soooo much Fun!

Because of that I will be signing myself up  with friends for the Winter Tough Guy in Jan 2011. Bring on the Hyperthermia!!!

But the  best news I received today from my Company is that the Match Funding Application has being successful and Amey are contributing £1000 to Headway South Staffs.

Thank you all so so much for your generosity and all the really encouraging words of support.

Kind Regards

Lou

 June 2010

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On the 25th July 2010 I will be taking part in an Event called Nettle Warrior. A Tough Guy event, in Perton, Wolverhampton. The event involve's me running an 8 cross country mile  run before taking on a huge assault course, one of which is running through fire!!!!

http://www.toughguy.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=30&Itemid=28

On Sunday 6th June, I entered the Great Midlands Fun Run to get an insight into my own fitness, running an 8.5 mile run around Sutton Coldfield, with very little training!!! ( Dam Exams!!!).

I  completed the run, in 1hour 29 mins. The thought of then taking on an assault course made me want to be sick, so please, please read on for the main reason I am doing this....

I am not doing this purely for the fun of it, there is a reason!! It is to raise money for a charity called Headway,  (South Staffs) which like many fundraiser's on here, this charity is close to my heart.

You see before 5th Nov 2005 I knew nothing of this charity, well  I had no reason too!. Untill then. Most of you are aware but my older brother Phil suffered a huge blow to head ( Frontal lobe - affecting his short term memory) from a car accident.

He was comatose'd for 3 weeks. It took a total of 10 months of; Intensive care, High Dependancy unit's, general wards and rehabilitation centres before he could return home. Phil basically had to learn how to walk, feed himself, write and climb massive hurdles all of which I am very proud of him. He was 26 years old at the time.

Phil can now drive again, he works part time and socialise's, but this life is hugely different to the life he led prior to the accident. Accepting what happened was difficult. Brain Injury does have a huge ripple affect on families & Close ones. People react differently  and  how they deal with it. I think we came out strong! And In my eyes he is a hero!

Any brain injury can take up to 20 years for a patient to recover from, and a sad sad fact is the majority of these people are young males in their late teens to early twenties. Usually from car accidents.

Headway is a UK charity set up to give help and support to people affected by brain injury.

Headway South Staffordshire is a local group, which Phil attended and they  started offering a Specialist Day Service once a week to local people who had survived a brain injury. Due to the success of this project they now open twice a week.

A network of local Groups and Branches throughout the UK and Channel Islands offer a wide range of services, including rehabilitation programmes, carer support, social re-integration, community outreach and respite care. The services available will vary, depending on local needs and resources.

Headway UK site can be found at www.headway.org.uk
