My story
I will be walking 10k at Knebworth House on the 7 Oct in aid of Target Ovarian Cancer and am hoping you will be able to make a small donation in support of all the great work that they do.
Okay, so it is not a marathon and it is followed by a huge afternoon tea but it is about supporting the charity and, in particular, raising awareness to help early diagnosis of ovarian cancer.
Last year my Mum and her sister were both diagnosed with ovarian cancer in the advanced stage. Although a difficult cancer to diagnose (similar symptoms to IBS & many less serious illnesses), the medical profession is still letting women down. In my Mum’s case she had to push for diagnosis and, where early diagnosis is so crucial to survival, it is clear GP’s need better support and training.
In the UK Ovarian Cancer is characterised by;
· One of the worst survival rates in Europe
· Low awareness & lack of understanding resulting in delays in diagnosis
· Chronic underfunding – minimal investment compared with other cancers
This is where Target Ovarian Cancer excels as they do not just place the onus on women recognising symptoms but focus strongly on the training of GP’s and lobbying for funding new scientific research.
So please sponsor me for this great cause and help to increase survival rates for women with ovarian cancer. If you can’t, then please familiarise yourself with the symptoms at the website overleaf. This cancer doesn’t have to be the “silent killer” that it is today.
