************UPDATE 19/3/15**************
A HUGE "THANK YOU" to everyone who has been so generous with their time and money by donating to Leeds Children's Charity! You are all BRILLIANT!!! I've spoken with the Chairman of the Board of Trustees today who tells me it that costs between £200-£300 to give ONE child a holiday they will remember for the rest of their lives, so WELL DONE EVERYONE, you have helped send at least TWO children on a holiday of a lifetime - AMAZING!!!!! Maybe, if you are looking at this page for the first time, I hope that you might think about donating - let's try and fund another holiday for a very deserving little boy or girl.......please carry on reading..... (ps Jos and I can't wait to give it some welly on Saturday - your generosity has given us such a boost, so thank you!)
Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page. I am hoping to raise funds for the Leeds Children's Holiday Centre in Silverdale. Funded ENTIRELY by voluntary donations, the Centre gives disadvantaged children a rare opportunity of a holiday who would not otherwise have the chance to leave the city or difficult home situation.
The children who benefit from the service are disadvantaged for many reasons including poverty, abuse, neglect, homelessness, victims of domestic violence, drug and alcohol abuse, young carers, children in care, and much more. Some children arrive with only the clothes they are wearing; one small girl arrived with what remained of her shoes taped to her feet. Within the Centre there are stocks of clothes, shoes, pyjamas, toiletries, and whatever is required to ensure every child enjoys their week by the sea.
Dedicated weeks are being organised during August for young carers and the most vulnerable children of the city. For these children August is considered to be the most dangerous month because they have no school or safe place to go to avoid the abuse, neglect, or other problems they are faced with. Young carers are a particularly disadvantaged group of children because they not only undertake inappropriate tasks and responsibilities beyond their years, they are also bullied by their peers because they cannot play or join in activities like other children.
The Centre was founded in 1904, and in 2015 the 60,000th underprivileged child will be provided with a holiday at Silverdale. Please help the Centre celebrate this milestone.
Very many thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, and for your help and support.
