Story

Update (6th December):

The Lotus Flower Runners have already raised over THREE QUARTERS(!) of the target amount with their running efforts over the past two months.  Dad recently completed the Hertfordshire Half Marathon, which is really incredible at his ripe old age - he is a true inspiration.  For their next trick, the runners will be taking part in the famous Hogs Back Road Race in Surrey on 10th December (this coming Sunday) which I am told involves a hell of a lot of hills. Good luck!

Hello!

Some of the heartier members of my family (and some others they have inveigled) are taking part in various organised runs over the next few months to raise money for a charity project with which my Dad is involved. Because I am about as good at running as Dad is at the internet, I am not taking part, so I am instead contributing by setting up this page which I'm sure all will agree is very impressive and alone worthy of parting with some serious cash.

I should mention (with pride) that my pa has just turned 70 yet can still outrun most people (or at least, people like me). Not only an unstoppable force on the country lanes of Essex, he is an extremely hard-working supporter of many charities and trusts and The Lotus Flower Trust is one particularly close to his heart.

Project Details

Lotus funds the building of schools, homes and similar constructions in remote, rural and often environmentally challenging areas of India. "Why doesn't the Indian State build these schools themselves?" I hear you ask. Well, who knows, but it hasn't yet - which means that 59 million Indian children have no access to any education - so it's jolly good that Lotus is trying to help.  They currently need to raise £9,000 towards the building of a new kindergarten in one of the remotest parts of Ladakh.

The Lotus Flower Runners, led by trustee/my dad Richard Wollaston, plan to keep running all autumn and winter until the money has been raised.

Please support the LFT Runners in any way you feel able. Every penny counts so donations both small and large are very welcome.

LFT Runners

  1. Richard Wollaston (my father)
  2. Becky Wales (my sister - sole female recipient of Dad's heartiness genes)
  3. Brian Wales (my brother-in-law - owner of unfairly long legs)
  4. Claire Wollaston (my sister-in-law - shorter legs than Brian but with a determined Northern spirit)
  5. Alex Barden (my boyfriend - barrister/elite athlete)
  6. Laura Higgs (Dad's personal trainer who keeps him going)
  7. Greta Jenkins (Laura's friend and fitness supremo)
