Welcome to my Just Giving fundraising page for Simpsons Special Care Babies!
Simpsons saved Logan's life and we wouldn't have our beautiful boy without them.
Logan was a resident at Simpsons NICU for 28 days and was completely discharged and considered well on the 9th March 2022 after 50 days; however, we received support from the charity as a family up until Logan's first birthday due to the trauma we experienced.
As we approach Logan's 2nd birthday (and my spine is completely healed) I would like to do something to say thank you. Running 5k is just the start. My plan is to run 50k in total in different events by the end of 2024. One kilometre for each day Logan was under the care of Simpsons.
For those who haven’t already seen/heard why I am taking on this challenge, here is the brief version.
To put it bluntly, the very special doctors and nurses in Simpsons saved Logan’s life, twice. Logan was born without blood sugar (Hyperinsulinism) and it took a lot of specialist care to get him to where he is today.
Before Logan was a week old, he experienced:
Blood tests
Hourly blood sugar monitoring
Intravenous antibiotics
Two lumbar punctures
Intercranial monitoring
Long line insertion (for his sugar drip)
An MRI
Multiple canualas
Feeding tube insertion
Thankfully due to the swift intervention at 2 days old we do not have any ongoing care for Logan, it was diagnosed as a transient episode and the only ongoing issues Logan has is a permanent sweet tooth 🦷
He spent 50 days under Neonatal care (hence the 50km!)
My fundraising target is £1200 as that is 50 days in hours.
For our family, no amount of money could ever be enough to repay our thanks but any donations would go a long way for the families like ours.
Thank you for your support.
