Story
This year I will be running the London Marathon to raise money for Liberty’s Legacy, a special fund within Bone Cancer Research in memory of my wonderful friend Liberty. I met Libs when I was 4 years old, we grew up dancing together and during all the time I had the pleasure of knowing her I don’t think I saw her without the biggest smile on her face. She was one of those people who would light up a room as soon as she walked in. Even when she was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, an aggressive form of bone cancer, her smile was unwavering and I was always completely in awe of her positivity and strength. She was an utter inspiration to everyone who knew her.
I have always wanted to do something to celebrate what an amazing person she was and the marathon felt like a suitable challenge! I am completely honoured to be part of such an amazing team, and celebrate the most inspirational person.
It was Liberty’s greatest wish that her family continue the brave fight she started, and continue on in her name to raise funds for much needed research into this brutal disease. Ewing’s is a rare but very aggressive form of bone cancer affecting children and especially teenagers - Liberty was diagnosed on her 13th birthday and sadly gained her wings just 2 weeks after her 14th birthday in October 2017. Unbelievably, treatment and survival rates have not improved in nearly 40 years. The latest figures released from the National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) have shown that, UK primary bone cancer research investment further reduced for a fourth consecutive year in 2021 to its lowest level in 18 years.
Any donations at all are so so appreciated and are going towards the work that Liberty started and her family and friends want to continue in her memory.
