Story
Facing the World is a wonderful British charitythat offers reconstructive facial surgery to children with severe facial deformities - caused by facial tumours, cysts, birth defects or sometimes as a result of terrorism or war. Children with these deformities are often teased and bullied by other children - and sometimes rejected by adults. They become isolated and depressed and find it hard to build relationships. Their future is often very bleak. In some cases the deformities lead to blindness or even death.
These children cannot get treatment in their owncountries.
Facing the World brings these children to theUK for treatment and also trains doctors and nurses in developing countries todo this difficult work so that children can be treated there.
All the UK doctors and nurses donatetheir services for free. The money we donate will be spent on hospital, traveland other costs. For children who have to come to the UK for treatment, Facingthe World pays the travel and accommodation costs for the child and his or herparent.
