Story
Wave Café (We Are All Valued Equally) is a vibrant café and arts centre bringing people with and without learning disabilities together in a truly inclusive, warm atmosphere. It was established to promote social inclusion and raise public awareness of the issues faced by people with learning difficulties. Teenagers from local schools and families come after school to participate in the arts programme. Young people with disabilities from local schools and colleges are part of the Internship programme, providing the opportunity to learn important work and life skills to develop independence.
I have personally benefited from participating in Wave Cafe, not just from the delicious food but also from having a place to go that is welcoming and allows me to hang out with people from all walks of life. I’ve learnt new skills and made great friends!
