Story
I have a thyroid condition and it runs in my family. It has had a huge impact on my life and has taken me years to get effective treatment. Often people say that no-one can understand thyroid disease unless they have it themselves and of course not everyone experiences a thyroid condition in the same way. but I think the more it's talked about the more people who are affected will feel less alone and their / our experiences can start to be better understood. So I'm raising money for The Thyroid Trust to help them continue to make things better for Thyroid patients by doing all the things they do: organising information and support events, awareness raising, supporting research and important advocacy initiatives such as the T3 project.
Join me and a few other thyroid friends on World Thyroid Day, 25th May 2022, for an afternoon at the seaside, trek around town and beach picnic in the pretty Kent coastal town of Broadstairs.
As the thyroid is a butterfly shaped gland: for the last two years, I have undertaken a fancy dress solo run between Broadstairs and Ramsgate to raise awareness of thyroid disease. This has become something of a tradition, so if you would like to join in by dressing up you are more than welcome to do so, but don’t worry, you can wear what you like! Just come and enjoy a nice day out and chat with some thyroid friends by the sea. Whether you can come along or not - PLEASE support me with a donation if you can! It will mean the world to have your support - and we all know that the cost of living crisis is making it harder than ever for charities to fundraise, so if you can spare a few pounds it would be hugely appreciated, but of course don't worry if you can't.
If you're coming along: meet me at midday in front of the Visitor Information Kiosk, by the Royal Albion Hotel garden, overlooking the golden sands of Viking Bay. Enjoy a stroll around the town (with me in my get up, or separately if you prefer!) until 1:30pm then reconvene on the beach by the Funicular Cafe - or at the cafe itself for some relaxing beach energy, to finish off the trek.
