Story

I am happiest with my boots on. Period. Ideally in a remote area of the Scottish Highlands but a hike up Ben Wyvis, my local hill, will do any day. The outdoors are my passion, my therapy, my playground - this is where I feel at home.

I was delighted to turn this passion into my profession and it's still capturing my inspiration and motivation. I was late discovering the outdoors. Whilst at University in my midtwenties a friend took me to Glencoe for the first time. I fell in love with the place and on returning to uni in my second year I joined the mountaineering club leading to a very average honours degree but a lifelong passion for the outdoors..

On my 40th birthday in 2005 I embarked on a 'wee walk' to do a consecutive, self-powered journey of all the Munros.  I was not the first woman to to a continual journey, in 1985 Kath Murgatroyd walked and cycled between them all.  20 years later I decided to do it my own way,  by foot and by sea kayaking to the islands. You can read about this at www.lorrainemccall.com or visiting my facebook page www.facebook.com/221corbetts

Boxing Day 2012 was a memorable day - as I started my first course of chemo therapy. The news of cancer was a tough one but I was ready to fight this bastard! 6 weeks of radio therapy and 2 chemo  therapies later, and I slowly came around and battled on. All I could think of was to get out into the wilderness and put my boots back on...

One day at a time but physically things are much better . I'm now sporting some very short curls and am ready for my next challenge..... A big thankyou to the Venture Trust for allowing me to take a sabbatical this summer.

I live with my partner Rob in the north west highlands. When I mentioned taking a sabbatical from work to walk all the corbetts this year, Rob was behind me all the way. It did not take long to realise that this excitement was partly due to all the obscure little places he could find to play golf.  Yes, my partner is a golfer, as passionate about this as I am about the mountains.

I am planning to start my journey at the beginning of April in the borders. Finishing up about 4 months later on Ben Loyal in Sutherland. The plan is to snake my way up the country mainly on foot but also cycling and sea kayaking to the islands. Using a sea kayak does make the logistics quite interesting as there are 6 islands - Arran, Jura, Mull, Rum, Skye and Harris. If the weather gets too bad I may consider the ferry unless anyone happens to have a sailing boat handy...............

I plan to do a weekly blog to keep people updated.
