Story
We would like to thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We have decided to run the 10K Great Edinburgh run on the 2nd May 2010 even though neither of us can run to save ourselves which makes it more of a challenge. The reason for the challenge is we would like to raise funds for Yorkhill Childrens Hospital in Glasgow where our daughter (Andy's Granddaughter) Serena underwent open heart surgery a few years ago.
Our story fortunately has a happy ending as Serena is now a happy, healthy 3 year old but she was only a few weeks old when we were told the devastating news that her heart hadn't formed right and that without surgery her organs would start to shutdown and she would be unlikely to see her 1st birthday. Within 3 weeks Serena was in Yorkhill where she spent 2 weeks in ward 5 Cardiology and 4 days in intensive care. It was a very humbling experience and made us realise just how fortunate we were that Serena was being given the care that she needed from the dedicated and experienced staff with the equipment that was available at Yorkhill. We will always be indebted to the hospital for giving Serena her life and us our little girl but we thought this would be a great opportunity to raise funds for the hospital to help with the latest technology and equipment that would give other families the same chance that we had.

Now all Ian and I have to do is learn to run 10K.....preferably under 3 hours!!!!!
It's now the 20th April and my Dad (Andy Whiteford) has decided he too would like to run for the same charity which is great as obviously the more money raised the better for the Yorkhill foundation but I've got a feeling he might humiliate us on the day as my Dad is 66 years old but embarrassingly is probably a lot fitter than Ian and I. So we'd like to thank him for running for the charity and for giving Ian and I a kick up the backside to get into shape (a reasonable shape anyway!!!!).
