Story
I responded to an email 3 weeks ago offering a place in the 40th and first ever virtual London marathon. I had to accept the challenge for 2 reasons: Firstly, I love my role within a charitable organisation that is about enabling and empowering people to live well until they die, and supporting our patients, their family and friends to this end. I have worked at St Christopher’s now for 12 years in the rehab team and now as a Clinical Team Lead in the community. Secondly, I love running, exercise and most things fitness. However, this interesting and challenging year is going to become more so for me in agreeing to do this.
Unlike when I ran in 2017, I did not know until 3 weeks ago that I would be doing this and so although I have been running regularly during lockdown my longest distance has been about 10k. I have to plan a route/schedule that allows me to pass the homes of family and friends who are happy to let me in (during Covid times) to use their loos and replenish my water and there will be no crowds with orange slices, jelly babies and shouts of support. It is going to be very wierd and somewhat lonely!
I would love it if you feel able to sponsor me and in doing so, support and contribute to the valuable and important ongoing work of St Christopher’s Hospice. Thank you so much for whatever you can donate.
