Story
World Autism Acceptance Week - Monday 27th March to Sunday 2nd April 2023
Hi my names Lorna:
As many of you will know, my youngest daughter Mia has many health issues and complex needs. She was also diagnosed with Autism at the age of 2 and I am participating in this walk to support the Sycamore Trust in helping raise autism awareness and much needed funds for an amazing charity!
The Sycamore Trust offers support, help and courses to parents and children with ASD and/or learning difficulties. Personally, we attended the SWAP programme (Speak With A Picture). As a parent with a non verbal child who will be starting school in September; the fact that Mia has no words or way of communicating with others is a massive worry. So being able to attend the SWAP course was a great find in teaching her and me another form of communication to try and prepare for school and allow her to communicate. Without the Sycamore Trust we never would have had access to this course. I hope to raise as much money as possible to help them to continue providing such help to future children and parents.
This walk will take place on Wednesday 29th March 2023 which will actually be Mias 4th birthday (which I see as fate and a compelling sign to participate). Whilst she is at pre-school I will be putting myself outside of my comfort zone to complete this 10 mile walk.
This charity and raising autism awareness is very close to my heart. Any donation big or small would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
