Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As you all know, my boyfriend David loves rallying..it's his passion in life. For the past 5 years I have supported him in almost every rally he has competed in. Everyone asks the question “When will you co-drive for David in an event?". My answer was always that I would like to but there wasn't really any suitable events and that frankly I was also too scared. Until…

David was invited to compete in Rally Hebrides 2012. This event takes place in Stornoway and is organised by Lewis Car Club. The main focus of the event is to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support, as well as allowing the drivers and co-drivers to have a bit of fun on the stages! In previous years, each driver has auctioned off their co-drivers seat which has raised a fantastic amount of money for the charity. However, this year, due to certain health and safety issues, the governing body for rallying has regrettably had to stop this. Therefore, the drivers have to nominate their co-driver before the event. So David asked me!

Now we still want to raise as much money as possible for the charity and this is where your sponsorship could make a big difference. I said yes straight away as I knew it would be a huge challenge for me and I do love a challenge. I have never co-driven before and considering I once had to phone David and ask him for directions to Annan, I can honestly say I’m not the best with directions. I'm more of a Tom-Tom girl. On top of this, the only time I have sat in the rally car with David has been on test days and these usually result in him unplugging his intercom due to my squealing!!

So for those of you who don't think this is going to be much of a challenge for me then think again! It will be my first time co-driving, Davids first time at the rally and his first time driving a Mk 2 Escort. I am absolutely petrified even thinking about it…he drives rather quickly! I’m hoping my recent go on the Pepsi Max in Blackpool has helped prepare me- although as my work colleagues will verify I did have my eyes closed the whole way round! The rally is an opportunity for us to have a bit of fun but the main reason is to raise money for Macmillan Cancer. I'm sure everyone reading this page has been affected in some way by either a friend or family member suffering from cancer or perhaps because they have suffered themselves. The more money we can raise the better. The work the charity does is incredible and I would now ask you to please donate anything you can.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

I will post pictures and updates on facebook throughout the day for those wanting to follow my progress-as soon as my hands stop shaking!

Thanks so much, Lori xx
