Story
On 12th June 2021 the Loporto-Browne's, Oli, Liana, Leyla and Poppy will be taking part in a sponsored walk for Young Minds.
The inspiration to fundraise for this wonderful charity came from seeing a post on Linked In from Natalie Barton about her daughter Amelia. The reason for this post was that Natalie felt that people needed to hear the reality of young people's mental health issues.
Mental health issues are more important than ever, but the resources just aren't there, I spoke with Natalie to see how we could help. We feel that the YoungMinds ethos and approach offers much-needed support to children, young people and their families nationwide so we decided to team up and fundraise for this incredible cause.
This is Amelia's Story
My 13-year-old daughter, Amelia, has faced increasing anxiety attacks at school since returning after the initial lockdown, which resulted in her self-harming and stating that she wanted to commit suicide in December last year. As we sat in the GP's surgery, we were told that our assessment request would likely be rejected due to lack of evidence and that it would also likely take a year to access Point 1 well-being services in our area.
Despite an initial rejection, Amelia has been accepted now for an Autism assessment and is in a much better place than she was in December. She's especially excited that something good could come from such a dark time.
YoungMinds is the UK's leading charity championing the wellbeing and mental health of children and young people. Driven by their experience, YoungMinds creates change so that children and young people can cope with life's adversities, find help when needed and succeed in life.
To fundraise for this fantastic charity, Propertymark is organising a big family walking event on 12th June 2021. Due to COVID, we won't be able to do this together, but instead we want families to go on their own walk between 1km and 5km and use that time to talk about mental health and help raise awareness on this vital issue.
On the day we will be asking everyone taking part to share their pictures with us on social media using the hashtag #Propertymark4YoungMinds. We are aiming to raise £10,000 to help support young people's mental health during this challenging time.
Thank you for your support. Every penny counts.
