We are fighting to make a world where diabetes does no harm

Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Diabetes UK is a charity very dear to my heart as my loving wife Dorne has been Type 1 Diabetic for 25 years after catching a cold at the age of 10. Unfortunately it seems a great number of the population are unaware of the effects Diabetes can have on your body, generally we think it just means Diabetics can’t eat sweet things, however this isn’t the case.

Dorne has Autonomic Neuropathy, which in simple terms is nerve damage that can affect her brain, heart, lungs and other vital organs, all caused by her Diabetes, and all of which is incurable. Her symptoms have become more severe over the last few months, including being unable to digest food easily, her breating is affected on a daily basis, she hsa severe low blood pressure (70/41 overnight!) which can cause her pass out and have a vertigo attack and in some episodes she has even stopped breathing. 3 years ago she was taken off injections and out onto an Insulim Pump, which has really helped in controlling her blood sugar levels, but they're still not under complete control which makes her Autonomic Neuropathy worse and the cycle continues.

Diabetes UK is the leading charity working for people with diabetes, funding research and helping people live with the condition. Their mission is to improve the lives of people with diabetes and to work towards a future without diabetes. So any money raised to help Diabetes UK explore all possible routes to prevent Diabetes from occurring and/or getting worse is something that would mean the world to us both and I'm sure to say each and every sufferer of this underestimated illness.

Over the last few months I’ve developed my love for running and would be over the moon it if I could hit my target for this very worthy cause. My current PB is 63 minutes for 10k and I have pledged to run this in at least 51-53 minutes which given I couldn’t even run 1km this time last year I feel is a great achievement.

So please dig deep people, I know money is tight for us all so any donations, even if it’s just £1, are very much welcomed.

You can donate online or via text. To send a text donation text the code SPON82 followed by the amount you want to donate (i.e. £1, £2, £3, £4, £5, £10) to the following number 70070

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
