LONGDUCKER MARCH 2009 · 1 November 2009
A small group of boys from the Harrow School Rifle Corps Royal Marine Cadet Detachment, along with their fool hardy officer, are planning to complete a 20mile timed march from on the Hill to Marble Arch and back for Help 4 Heroes
The school will be running for the Harrow Club, celebrating its 125th anniversary, which raises money for youth projects in the area. However, it has been agreed that as part of the 150th anniversary celebration of the Harrow Rifle Corps and in memory of the death of 2nd Lieutenant Paul Mervis 2 Rifles, the brother of a teaching colleague here at the school, our small group aim to walk/light jog the 20miles of Long Ducker in boots and fatigues whilst carrying a small rucksack.
Help for Heroes was set up October 2007 out of a desire to provide support to those members of the armed forces that are injured in current conflicts. It was borne out an immense respect for those men and women who put their lives in danger on a regular basis on our behalf. There was a basic belief, as there is now, that those who put themselves in that danger, and are unfortunate enough to be injured, deserve the very best level of support.
